Michael Clements

Michael Clements - a US-trained attorney - heads the Environmental Rights Programme at LHR. After graduating with a bachelor of arts in history from Barnard College, Columbia University, she received a juris doctorate from Columbia University School of Law with a specialisation in human rights law in 2010. 

She clerked for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague and was awarded a post-graduate fellowship from the Columbia University Human Rights Institute to work with mining-affected communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

She subsequently joined Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York where she worked on domestic litigation and international arbitration matters.  Her areas of interest include the human rights obligations of business and the promotion of environmental rights in mining-affected communities.
